Yes. The private keys are generated on your phone and never leave it. Bitaroo cannot see them, cannot move your bitcoin, and cannot restore your Wallet for you. The trade-off is that the recovery phrase is entirely your responsibility.
2What can Bitaroo see?
Bitaroo can see your Wallet's addresses and its activity on the public blockchain, because your Bitaroo Wallet is linked to your Bitaroo account for verification. Bitaroo cannot see your recovery phrase and cannot move your bitcoin.
3Should I use this instead of a hardware wallet?
No. The Bitaroo Wallet is a hot wallet on a phone, which suits everyday amounts and getting started. For larger holdings a hardware wallet is the stronger choice, and our self-custody guide explains when to move up.
4What if I lose my phone?
Your bitcoin is safe as long as you have your recovery phrase. Install the app on a new phone, sign in, choose "I already have a wallet" and enter the 12 words. Your balance, addresses and history all come back, because they live on the blockchain rather than on the phone.
5What if I lose my recovery phrase?
If the app still works on your phone, act now: create a new Wallet, back up its phrase properly, send your bitcoin across, then remove the old Wallet. If both the phone and the phrase are gone, nobody can recover it, including Bitaroo.
6Why can I not sell straight from my Wallet?
Selling happens in your Account, because that is the side that holds AUD and matches orders. Move the bitcoin to your Account first, which the app guides you through, then sell as usual.
7Does it cost anything?
The Bitaroo Wallet is free. Sending bitcoin costs a network fee, which goes to Bitcoin miners rather than to Bitaroo, and rises and falls with network traffic.
